All Tied Up

I would like to apologize for the brief blog yesterday. My life's been busy and my priorities elsewhere. Today, I'll be discussing Act 2, Scene 1, but instead of summarizing then elaborating and discussing the Scene, I'm going to discuss the scene as I read it. Hopefully this will keep my thoughts in my head before they escape.
In act 2 scene 1, the first two pages begin with Bianca, tied by her hands, and being antagonized by her sister, Katherine. Katherine is envious of her sister because her suitors want to marry her for something other than a dowry, while Katherine doesn't even have a single suitor. Katherine is yelling at Bianca in an attempt to discover her favorite suitor, but Bianca won't say. Katherine says that she should marry Gremio for his money, but Baptista comes in just in time and yells at Katherine after sending Bianca to go sew. Katherine accuses her father of favoritism, but he denies it and Katherine is furious.
Wow... I always saw Katherine as misunderstood and pitiful, but tying Bianca up is going too far. I feel that Bianca would have been much more open if Katherine was civilized. Katherine really took this too far. I understand the feeling of always coming in second place to your sister- that's been my entire life- but I know I personally have become really close with my sister because my parents favoritism is their opinion, not hers. I wish Katherine and Bianca could pick up on this.
